Organiser
A big thank you to everyone - especially Hilary Palmer for dealing with all the entries, those who braved difficult travelling conditions to come and all of the helpers from NOC who worked hard to make the races a success. The sunshine was the icing on the cake!
The guest race was inaugurated several years ago to provide for the drivers bringing the FCC competitors. This year we tried to encourage wider participation and the race was hotly contested. NOC usually organise Short Races, the second with a chasing start, on the day before its February Badge Event. If you enjoyed this race, please support our future Short Races and help maintain the viability of this exciting form of orienteering.
Hilary Hodkinson
Planner
After coaching on junior tours over the last few years and spending many an evening planning numerous courses on a variety of terrains, the prospect of planning three short courses on a local area seemed easy. Unfortunately I failed to realise how many other issues you have to consider when planning a competitive event! It was however an enjoyable if time-consuming experience and I think that my previous experience helped to produce some interesting courses, which I hope everyone enjoyed. The positive comments at the finish and after the event were greatly appreciated.
I am indebted to my Dad for all his help and advice, from the pre-event planning to spending hours out in the forest on the day putting out, manning and collecting controls. Thanks also go to my controller Kevin for all his help and words of advice as well as mum and Jon for helping me get all the controls out and in, and putting up with me when I got stressed!
Nicola Olivant
Controller
I would like to thank Nicola for planning really nice courses, Hilary for her good organising skills and Dave and Pauline Olivant for all their help with the event.
I would like to say to the rather childish competitor who felt he needed to swear and kick the finish box stand - learn how to read a map, its awfully helpful when competing at an orienteering event.
